Fewer than half of Americans have calculated how much they need to save for retirement. After working for a lifetime, retirees want to know that their golden years will be just that - golden, and spending some of those years in a sub-par nursing home is sure to make the experience much more difficult to enjoy. Planning for retirement can be confusing and overwhelming at times. This is why it is vital to talk about what the potential needs are and what the costs of living out the rest of their lives might be. For an older couple age 62 and 64 it is a perfect time to have this conversation seeing as the retirement age in the United States is 67. Although the thought is overwhelming, there are many ways to prepare for retirement. The U.S Department of Labor projects that a retiree will need to replace between 70 and 90 percent of his or her before-retirement income to mai ntain your usual standard of living. Assuming that the older couple have been saving up years to make retirement a priority it is possible to reach that goal. The sooner you start saving, the more time your money has to grow.
